Tomas Lebedevas

Vilnius, Lithuania

I wrote The Reserve, a book on how training builds the reserve that keeps people strong and independent as they age; it is out now on Amazon. I coach hybrid athletes and adults who want the same, in person in Vilnius and online. Alongside that: travel and wildlife photography, solo motorcycle journeys, and notes from my own training. I also run TrainScience, a research-led training lab, and make trance music as Tedey Thomson.

The Reserve: Exercise Physiology for Longevity — book cover

The Reserve

out now

Exercise physiology for longevity, written for coaches, physiotherapists and clinicians. Its starting point is that people do not lose function gradually: capacity declines smoothly, but independence goes in steps, on the day capacity falls below what an ordinary task demands. The book follows six reserves (aerobic capacity, strength, power, bone, balance and metabolism), shows where each one's threshold sits, and turns the evidence into training. Every effect size is sourced and graded: verified, probable or untraced.

Paperback, 277 pages, $24.99 / €22.88 · Kindle $12.99 · ISBN 979-8174986206

Photography

Travel, wildlife and street photography, gathered over some fifteen years on the road. Zebras and hippos in Tanzania, the alleys and desert of Morocco, harbours and markets in Italy, the United States and beyond. A selection of 42 photographs, grouped by place.

Exploring

Solo motorcycle journeys, filmed along the way. From Vilnius across Central Europe, over the Alps and the Pyrenees, down to Spain and Portugal, and back through Croatia and Hungary. Short clips from the road on Instagram.

Next trips are planned on Peaks & Miles: routes, distances and the best months, for people who train for their holidays.

Training Lab

Notes from my own training: strength and endurance in the gym, on the road, on the bike and in a kayak. Marathons in Dresden, Ibiza, Vilnius and Kaunas, with a best time of 3:10, and a 72 km training run on Tenerife. I plan a cycle, record the data and share what held up, and why.

Personal trainer

Bcertified personal trainer · Aeromix, 2022

I coach hybrid athletes and adults who want to stay strong, fit and independent as they age. We start with a conversation, a few simple tests and a body composition measurement. Then I write a plan that combines strength and endurance and adjust it as you progress, with regular check-ins when we work online.

TrainScience

A research-led training lab for longevity, strength and endurance. We read the new studies, turn them into protocols with clear intensity, volume and progression, coach people through them one-to-one or in small groups, and test before, during and after. A research digest tracks the latest papers and trials, refreshed every three weeks.

Tedey Thomson

My trance alias: melodic, euphoric and inspiring, in the 132–140 BPM range. The name comes from a pink teddy bear I got as a child instead of a birthday present, which became my talisman for years. The story is on the site, and the first tracks are on the way.
